Chris Moneymaker is an American poker player who won the 2003 World Series of Poker Main Event after qualifying through a 39 dollar online satellite tournament, becoming the first champion to reach the Main Event this way. His amateur victory is widely credited with igniting the early 2000s poker boom, a phenomenon often called the Moneymaker effect.
