Jesse Owens was an American track and field athlete who won four gold medals at the 1936 Berlin Olympics, in the 100 meters, 200 meters, long jump and 4x100 meter relay, held in Nazi Germany under Adolf Hitler regime and its claims of Aryan racial superiority, a result widely regarded as a direct rebuttal of those claims. He also set several world records that stood for years afterward, including a long jump mark of 26 feet 8 and a quarter inches set in 1935 that stood for twenty five years.
