Wayne Gretzky, nicknamed The Great One, is a retired Canadian ice hockey player universally regarded as the greatest to play the sport. Across 20 NHL seasons from 1979 to 1999 with four teams he set the league's career records for goals, assists and points, records that remain unbroken. He won four Stanley Cups with the Edmonton Oilers, nine Hart Trophies as most valuable player and ten Art Ross Trophies as leading scorer. On his 1999 retirement the NHL retired his number 99 across every team in the league.
