The World Othello Championship is the premier annual international tournament of Othello, first held in Tokyo in 1977 with representatives of five countries, run for nearly three decades before the federation that now governs it existed. The World Othello Federation was founded in 2005 in Reykjavik, Iceland by the game's trademark holders and national Othello federations from twenty two founding countries. The championship has been held every year since 1977 except 2020 and 2021, when it was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
