CONCACAF was formed 18 September 1961 in Mexico City from a merger of the North American Football Confederation and the Confederacion Centroamericana y del Caribe de Futbol, and now has 41 member associations across North America, Central America, the Caribbean and three South American territories. It launched the CONCACAF Nations League in 2018. The confederation was central to the 2015 FIFA corruption scandal: long-serving president Jack Warner resigned in June 2011 amid corruption allegations, his general secretary Chuck Blazer was separately implicated, and Warner's successor Jeffrey Webb was arrested on corruption charges in Switzerland on 27 May 2015.
